Day 48 - Cochem

We are now on the Moselle River which is a tributary of the Rhine.  Cochem is our port for the night, and is a charming city.  This morning's activity was a guided walking tour of the city followed by a visit to the iconic Reichsburg Castle.  Today is Cochem's annual festival day, so there was a parade, people dressed in national costume, a band, and various entertainers.  It was very crowded.

We have been invited to dine at Table LA RIVA tonight.  This invitation only exclusive restaurant provides exquisite degustation menu with matching wines.

Scenic Jade is docked in Cochem right in the middle of town.

The Imperial Castle, the Reichsburg is an imposing view as it overlooks the wine village of Cochem.

The Moselle River winding its way through Cochem.

Many very old buildings surround the Market Square (Marktplatz). Note the slope on the floor of the 3rd level - no spirit levels in those days.

The Market Square fountain called St. Martin is surrounded by half timbered houses alongside the city hall.

Chess being played in the gardens alongside the Moselle River.

Today is the Cochem Medievel Festival where a procession of locals dressed in period costume walked up to the castle.

The locally made cakes for which the tourists clamber.  More cream than cake on most !

BBQ lunch on the top deck of the Scenic Jade with Julie, Brian, Ann and Judy.
