Day 26 - Chester to York

This morning we undertook a walking tour of the town of Chester.  This included medieval walls and the Cathedral.

We then continued across England over the Pennine Hills to Haworth.  Haworth has the original house where the Bronte sisters were raised, which has been fitted out in the style of their era (early 18th Century) and set up as a museum.  This was extremely interesting and informative.  The Bronte sisters are best known for their novels, which included "Wuthering Heights" and "Jane Eyre".  I did not know that they all died at a very young age.

The countryside from Haworth to York is very attractive - rolling green hills, scattered villages, and evidence of the industrial nature of these towns during the industrial revolution.

Along the river at Chester looking from the city walls.

Remains of the hot baths from Roman times in Chester.

The amphitheater remains in Chester.  It is almost possible to imagine lions roaring.

City hall in Chester.

A lunch stop at Haworth, a great little pub.  This is the well-stocked bar.

Great food at the restaurant, low ceilings, and the price was right for the bus people !

Outside of The Silent Inn where we had lunch.

Original home of the Bronte sisters.

A magnificent sight down the Main Street at Haworth.
